Kaivannamwooden hand block printing Call now

Workshops · by appointment

Print something with your own hands.

A hands-on introduction to wooden block printing, taught in the studio where the work actually happens. Parthiban and his father explain the craft, hand you a block, and stay with you until your print comes out right.

01 — What you'll do

Learn from the people who carve the blocks.

You'll start with the studio's block library — floral, geometric, temple and Tamil-script blocks, each one carved by hand. Then you'll learn how colour is mixed, how the block is inked, and how to line up a repeat print without smudging.

By the end you'll have printed your own piece — visitors have taken home printed bags, shirts and cloth swatches. Groups are kept small, questions are welcome, and no prior experience is needed.

Good to know — wear clothes you don't mind getting ink on, and bring the cloth or shirt you'd like to print if you have something specific in mind.
